Who is Karatbars International?

Karatbars International is based in Germany. The company is a bank-independent trading house for merchandise and precious metals, especially Gold bullion embedded in credit card sized formats in small denominations of 1g, 2.5g and 5g ingots. Due to our bank-Independence, we can offer our customers and partners a selection of products without the influence of outside corporate or institutional interests.

Karatbars International is an Internet trading company (e-Commerce) and its products are shipped worldwide to an expanding and impressive list of countries.

What does the Karatbars products offer?

The group Karatbars offers one of the most extraordinary range of products on the market. Karatbars International gold bars are characterized by high quality workmanship and quality.

The producers and suppliers of our one-gram gold bars are all listed on the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), which is a guarantee for production and supply stability.

An absolute highlight of our products are the country-branded gold cards. On these special cards you have glorious colors  showcasing the respective national flags.

One also have the opportunity to acquire limited edition gold card collection pieces. We aim to offer several different editions with a variety of interesting subjects. Since we often need a license for these cards and the requirements are small to maintain uniqueness and collect-ability, the price differs somewhat from the regular gold card.

Is Karatbars International a bank?

No. Karatbars International is an independent private Internet trading (eCommerce) organization that sells gold in small units. We work in many countries around the world, offering gold bullion in a variety of secure and eloquently packaged formats.

Through direct contracts with gold producers we work without large budget global sales teams and retailers, effectively cutting out all the middlemen in the sales process, which enables us to pass on price benefits directly to our Independent Affiliates (you) that translates into very lucrative compensation plans that would normally be consumed by sales teams and retailers.

Why is Karatbars products often cheaper than a bank?

Karatbars is an independent eCommerce company, not a bank. As a direct supplier, we source the least expensive in the market and sell from our online store 24/7 for our global customers and affiliates.

The Internet allows us synergies and cost advantages that we pass on directly to out affiliates (you). This allows us to leverage prices and terms for you as competitive as possible.

The new Digital Economy has opened doors to businesses that were previously not possible. What does the protected members area offer?

When you register for your free account, you will receive your username and password via the email address you supplied within a few seconds. The closed area can then be accessed via the “Login” button at the top right of the Karatbars homepage. Customers and Affiliates can reach their respective dashboards and back-office pages via this same “Login” button.

When you register, it is important that you understand the difference between registering as a Customer or as an Affiliate. In terms of purchasing gold products, there is absolutely no difference, however, Customers cannot benefit from the very lucrative compensation plans; this is only available to Affiliates. It is highly advisable to register as an Affiliate anyway, even if you do not intend to do any marketing whatsoever. The reason for this is very simple; if you do happen to have a friend or family member that want to join, you will receive commission based on all their purchases, and as a Customer you will not receive any commissions whatsoever. The rationale is simple, as an Affiliate, you are part of the global ‘sales’ team that are compensated for the business they generate. This is entirely voluntary, of course, and you may choose to register as a Customer if that suits you.

With “My Karatbars” you always have an overall view of your current orders and sales. Under the My Gold and Profile menu items, you can access the complete history of all your transactions with Karatbars. “My Karatbars” manages master data such as account information, shipping addresses and your correspondence with Karatbars. You will also find all the forms and documents available for download.

How do I sign up for my Free Account?

How do I do my first online purchase?

Log in to your personal back office. If your account opens on the “KYC” page, it means that you will need to upload your KYC (Know your Customer) documentation before you can make any purchases.

Please follow STEP #3 on the Sign-up Page. This process contains a step-by-step video tutorial. If there are no issues with your KYC documentation, Karatbars should approve your documentation within 24 hours. However, if Karatbars declined some, or all, your documentation, you will receive an email with the reasons. You MUST make sure that your full name and PHYSICAL address detail on your KYC documentation agrees 100% with the information you supplied when you registered, or Karatbars will not approve. Karatbars is very strict when it comes to these two pieces of information, as it is critical for when you purchase gold; all parties involved needs to know exactly who purchased the gold (i.e. they must be able to identify you via your ID or passport uploaded) and also where exactly your gold must be delivered (hence the need to verify your physical address, so that FedEx can deliver without problems).

Once your KYC has been approved, you may proceed to purchase your products as follows;

Log in to your personal back office (you should land on your Dashboard page by default) and hover your mouse over the Product Purchase menu item. Click the product category you would like to choose from (the most frequently purchased product is the Classic Karatbar). Now you can choose your product as well as the quantity and click on Add to Cart. When you are done, click on View Cart and follow the instructions to complete your purchase. Follow the step-by-step video tutorial for STEP #2 on the Sign-up page, which will  make the process even simpler.

Our logistics partner, FedEx, will contact you to arrange a delivery time convenient for you. You are also able to track your parcel via the FedEx website.

How much gold can I accumulate in the free Karatbars Vault?

100 Grams

Every time you purchase Karatbars gold, you choose whether you want it to be shipped or stored. If you want your gold to be shipped, it will be delivered to your door via FedEx.

If you want your gold to be stored, it will be stored in secure Karatbars vaults. The storage is free for up to 100 grams of gold. To store gold for its customers, Karatbars uses two high-security, third-party vaults that are fully insured. It is important to mention that Karatbars always stores more gold in its vaults than customers’ storage holdings.

First vault

The first vault is located in Karatbars home office, in Stuttgart. This is where the company stores small gold bars, that is 1-gram, 2.5-gram and 5-gram bars. Every year, usually twice per year, the German government conducts audits on gold vaults and not once did Karatbars fail a single audit. Nonetheless, if Karatbars does fail in the future, according to the government policy in Germany, it will be publicized. That is, you will know about the failure from the news.

Second vault

The second vault is where large gold bars are stored. However, due to security reasons, Karatbars does not expose the details of the vault’s location. The company provides this information only to the German government.

The “Four-eye” principle

Karatbars employs the “four-eye” principle throughout the total supply-chain of all gold assets, including shipping and storage. This means that every time anyone physically touches gold, there must be four sets of ‘eyes ‘acknowledging this event. Video surveillance is a mandatory set of eyes.

Conclusion

Karatbars regularly has to pass stringent auditory and regulatory compliance requirements to continue to store gold for its customers, which provides customers and business partners with the assurance that their gold is in safe hands. However, don’t keep all your eggs in one basket – It is good practice to accumulate up to 100g of your gold in the free storage facility and then ship it to your home via Fedex. In fact, the cost of shipping 40 grams of gold to your door via FedEx is the same if you ship only 1 gram, so, a good rule of thumb would be to ship your gold in lots of 40 grams.

How do I sell my gold back to Karatbars?

There are two processes;

  • If your gold is stored by Karatbars on your behalf in their vault, or
  • If your gold is held by you

Karatbars Vaulted

This is the simplest and quickest way for you to redeem your gold for cash – Your gold will simply be sold out from your online account at the current redemption price and you will receive your money within a few days in your account.

Log in to your back office and hover your mouse over the My Gold menu item. Click on the Gold Buyback option where you will immediately see your total gold holding with Karatbars. Enter Your 1g Gold Count in the Gold Buy Back Request box and click Submit. Simple as that.

Personally Held

  1. Send an email to support@karatbars.com clearly stating how much gold you will be selling back to Karatbars and make sure that you include your account number.
  2. You will receive a binding offer from Karatbars with a fixed buy back price, which will depend on the state of the gold that you will return.
  3. FedEx will collect the gold on behalf of Karatbars.
  4. Karatbars will examine your gold to establish authenticity and recyclability (condition). If there are no issues, the agreed purchase price less the collection costs will be credited to the account as soon as possible, or:
  5. Should the condition of your gold be in question, Karatbars will contact you by telephone in order to reach an agreement with you.
I would like to change my account - how?

Log in to your back office and hover your mouse over the Profile menu item. Click on Edit Password and proceed to change your password.

Please note! If you need to Edit your Profile in any way, you will have to submit new KYC documentation.

Error messages - who can help me?

In the unlikely event that you get an error message while logged in to your Karatbars back office, there are a few steps you can take before logging a formal complaint;

  1. Log out and back in. Try the function where you received the error message and if it reappears, do the next step.
  2. Log out and reboot your computer. Once you have rebooted, log in again and try the same function. If the error message reappears, do the next step.
  3. Send an email to support@karatbars.com with an explanation of the steps you took up to the point where the error message appeared. If at all possible, make a screenshot of the error message and attach it to your email. Karatbars should respond within 24 hours.

Logistics & Shipping

What are the delivery and pick-up costs?

The cost of delivery and shipping are dependent on both the value and quantity of goods purchased, as well as the method of shipping and total weight. The relevant delivery costs are displayed in the checkout process. Note: The card with a 1 gram ingot weighs about 8 gram, including the card it is embedded in and shipping material! This means that if we process a gold shipment of 100g, the total weight for determining shipping cost will therefore be based on 800g.

My goods have not arrived yet! Who can help me?

You have already received email notification that your merchandise was delivered to the logistics company. However, a day has then passed and you have not received a request for a delivery date from the logistics company (FedEx)?

In exceptional cases (airline strike or adverse weather conditions) there may be occasional delays. If this was the case, please notify us immediately so we can take care of the whereabouts of your delivery. We will clarify your delivery with our logistics partner and ensure that FedEx send you a transaction number. This will enable you to see exactly where your package is at any given point in time.

What happens if I am not at home at the time of delivery?

You need to be at home at the time of delivery in order to sign for your package.

If you are not at home during the specified time, our logistics partner (FedEx) will leave notification in your mail box and the burden of responsibility will rest on you to contact FedEx for a new appointment. Any additional re-delivery costs will be for your account.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but trust that you understand that we are dealing with your gold, and as such we must ensure that we deliver it into your hands, not someone else.

What if the delivery is inconsistent with what I ordered?

Karatbars conduct several qualified security checks before an order is handed over to our logistics partner for shipping. In an optimized sequence of checks, the contents of your shipment is weighed electronically under video surveillance and compared with the calculated target weight.

However; if, despite all our checks and balances, you experience any discrepancy with your shipment whatsoever, please inform Karatbars immediately.

What happens to my data that I've given you?

Certain minimum information is necessary in order to process your transactions with Karatbars. We treat all information confidentially and with absolute care. Access to your data by unauthorized persons is not possible as we have some of the hardest security processes in place in the world, comparable to the best financial and banking institutions in the world. Your data is stored in-house in Karatbars’ own data center and all our employees are subject to formal, written confidentiality agreements to use your information solely for the purpose of processing your transactions with Karatbars.

What are the advantages with Karatbars?

Whether you buy or sell, with Karatbars you are always assured of the best quality and price because we work directly with producers and refineries – no middlemen! We have our own product line at the refinery ATAkulche in Turkey (Istanbul) and directly control the volume of production itself so that we can meet even a relatively constant shortage of gold supply to our customers.

Normally, a production-run through to delivery takes about 6 weeks.

Unlike other gold trading houses, we obtain our gold directly from the producer. We pass this price-benefit directly to you and our Affiliates.

How can I order Karatbars?

Can I sell my gold back to Karatbars?

Is there a minimum order value?

Yes! The minimum value is €50 for your monthly recurring purchase, alternatively, if you do not have a monthly recurring order, the minimum purchase value is the quoted price for a 1 gram Classic Karatbar gold card.

The benefit of the €50 monthly (or weekly) recurring order is that if the price of 1 gram of gold should rise higher than €50, Karatbars will credit your gold holding with a portion of 1 gram of gold that the ruling price will procure (for example 0.93 gram). Likewise if the price of 1 gram of gold should fall below €50, Karatbars will credit your gold account with the appropriate portion in excess of 1 gram (for example 1.07 gram).

The monthly recurring method of purchasing gold is probably one of the best ‘provident fund’ investment you could make, as any investment in gold has stood the test of time for well over 5,000 years.

Can the price change after my order?

No! Whether you are buying from us or we buy-back from you, the price is fixed based on payment received or when you received a price from us via email (for buy-back transactions). When you buy, you pay the current day’s price on the date your payment is credited to our account (for credit card payment it will be at the current price of the day). You can view all your gold purchase transactions from the following links:

Firstly, hover your mouse over the My Gold menu item and click the My Gold sub-menu. Here you will see a summary of your total gold holding.

Secondly, you can see a full breakdown of all your historical gold transaction by selecting the Transaction History item under My Gold. All transactions are shown, including your gold buying, selling and gold delivered to you.

Can I change my order?

No. If you ordered the gold online and the payment has been received, we can’t change the purchase contract. The quantity and the prices are fixed in the deal. We enter into a delivery commitment, you pay an obligation. A change in your order is therefore no longer possible.

What are my payment options?

After you have made your purchase and accept the terms and conditions, you get to the payment options. There are only two payment options;

  • by credit card (instantaneous)
  • bank transfer (days)

Credit Card

This method is very simple; just follow the instructions for entering your card details. We encourage you to use this option over the Bank Transfer option, which could take a couple of days to process.

Bank Transfer

When you click on a bank transfer, a .PDF file is generated with your username and your personal ID number (please always specify this ID number on transfer documents). If you scroll down the .PDF file you will find the Karatbars bank details; complete and transfer the invoice amount through your bank. Karatbars will inform you about the payment to their account and you can find this by going to your personal back office and selecting the My Gold menu item.
